Fort Erie racing secured for 2014

There will be horse racing at Fort Erie Race Track this year.

“Funds required for a full season of racing at Fort Erie have been secured,” writes John Snobelen of the Ontario Racing Commission in a letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne.

An alliance between Woodbine and Fort Erie will be established based on a similar model among standardbred tracks.

Affected parties will be meeting over the next few weeks to prepare a race calendar for 2014.

Hopefully the details will be released before February 13th…what is the exact $ definition of “funds”? Is it what was requested by Mr. Thibert, or a token sum determined by the Province?

I believe this is a huge election ploy on behalf of the Liberals who created this issue to begin with. Hopefully we will get clarification from the Province or Mr. Thibert in the next couple days.

Our discussions with Mr Snobelen are both, that racing in 2014 substantially mirroring that of 2013 (races, purses, days) and, a multi-year commitment. (The shortfall in funding having been clearly identified since last September.) This latter part (multiyear commitment) being contingent on our submitting a 5 year business plan, which was accomplished in full today, via Executive Summary. The full 132 page detailed business plan being issued to the Province tomorrow.

This will remain confidential to the Province, to give them time to absorb our defined path to sustainability and, out of courtesy since they paid $90,000 towards its completion. Further, some of the study is proprietary and competitive so those parts will remain close until implemented.

We will make the study executive summary available to the public as soon as we are able.
