Woodbine gobbling up Fort Erie horses

Fort Erie Race Track (Herald photo)

According to the Daily Racing Form, Woodbine Racetrack will run cheap races and impose some limits on shipping horses back and forth to Fort Erie, which takes a big bite out of the supply of thoroughbreds for the local track.

Horsemen at the Toronto track were informed Sunday afternoon.

Claiming prices for some races would be $5,000, while outfits would be allowed to ship out for races worth less than $20,000 and be able to return only twice — any more will require special permission of Woodbine.

I thought we were all in this together but apparently Woodbine doesn’t agree

Woodbine should be working WITH Fort Erie, not against them. Rather than see the Fort as competition, work together to fill more races. I am so disappointed in Woodbine. They want to be considered a world class facility, then act like one!
