Two charged in ‘serious injuries’ on infant

Two Fort Erie men are accused of assaulting an infant boy after medical professionals alerted police and a 16-month investigation was launched.

Mikol Zahorchak, 31, and David Nelson, 47, both of Radford Avenue and caregivers to the child, have each been charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Niagara Regional Police detectives began investigating in October 2009 when serious injuries were reported by medical staff.

Detectives conducted numerous witness interviews and consultations with medical specialist who say the four-month-old boy suffered extensive non-accidental tramautic injuries.

The boy was removed from the home and placed in the care of Niagara Family and Child Services.

Police will not divulge the nature of the injuries.

The two accused are scheduled to appear in court at the Fort Erie Provincial Courthouse on March 22.

These people need to go to jail and share a cell with hard core criminals who have been in for 30 years. See how they like being slapped around when it happens to them. This is one case, the other being pedifiles, which I have no tolerance for. They should be shot, p_s_e_ on and and have their hands or the other abusive part of their body cut off/out. Yes, that goes for women too.

First maybe wait for a verdict in the case before making the decision that why are guilty before hand. The people in question are loving and caring people. I personally think that people should stop and think before passing judgement on other people they dont know. Just because they have been charged doesnt make them guilty.
I think is was irresponsible of this publication to post their address with out having all the facts on the case.

Beth, being innocent until proven guilty is an integral part of our judicial system. That being said, the police themselves published all the information on these two accused persons. The media has every right to publish this as well. Personally, I’d like to know what’s going on in my community. The police, special units, and the doctors have come to the conclusion that there is sufficient evidence to charge these two with the crimes they are accused of. You say they are loving and caring, unless you live with someone, you really don’t know them. I hope you’re right about them, but someone harmed this child in a horrific way and they need to be removed from society.
