Town to sell Ridge Road land

13/05/24 — Having found no takers for a partnership with the Town to construct washrooms and other public facilities on the property beside the Ridgeway Village Square, the land at 283 Ridge Road has been put up for sale.

Originally acquired in 2000 to serve as a retail and Friendship Trail attraction for the Fort Erie Museum, the Town had hoped it could be a part of the Village Square if a partnering developer could be found.

The cost of providing washrooms and office space was prohibitive for potential investors and no one responded to the request for proposal, said planning director Rick Brady.

The building had become an increasing eyesore and business owners downtown had been complaining.

The Town plans to demolish the building at a cost of $15,000. The land without the building is appraised at $80,000, Brady said.

Any new construction on the land would be required to adhere to the Town’s urban design guidelings for the area so that it would complement the surrounding buildings and the Village Square, he said.

A new building can be up to three storeys with commercial space on the ground floor and residential on the upper floors.
