Town planner says arrivederci

Town planner Rino Mostacci is moving on and will take a position with the Town of Markham as director of planning and urban design.

He said the initial work for the Bay Beach project is done and that there are “very capable people” on staff who can carry it through to the end.

“I’ve been with the Town for more than 10 years,” he said. “For my career, this (new job) is exactly what I like to do.”

It’s not the top planning job in Markham as he will report to a commissioner of development services that oversees planning, engineering, economic development and building.

Markham has a population of 400,000 and the previous director earned $143,000 plus benefits last year. Mostacci earned $132,000 with the Town of Fort Erie.

“Rino is highly regarded by his peers and the development community. It is a credit to our Town that an innovative, dynamic growth community like Markham would look to Fort Erie for its new director of planning and urban design,” said CAO Harry Schlange.

Mostacci’s last day in Fort Erie will be April 29 and recruitment for a replacement will beign right away.

Mr. Mostacci will be a great loss for Fort Erie.

I just hope that “someone’s” slander and misinformation was not a factor in his decision.

All the best Mr. Mostacci. Markam’s gain …. Fort Erie’s loss.

No doubt the SLANDER BLOGGER will be sending emails to the council of Markam.

What a piece of work …..

No need to mince words. The “someone” is Sharon Bowers. She has also earned the nickname UnaBlogger. She goes by the handle of “Crystal Sage” and she is a pathetic nut case. But Markham will know what she’s all about when she tells them that “according” to her “information” he was fired from a Niagara municipality — a small example of one of her lies aimed simply at trying to discredit someone she doesn’t like. Bowers exemplifies the antithesis of anyone who is good, decent, moral, intelligent or hard-working. See you in court you piece of work, Sharon Bowers.

    One more comment ……

It’s all so much B.S. that this town has been put through. And it’s not the “local” homegrown spreading it.

Iam sure the Mr. Mostacci will get the respect he deserves in Markham. It is a shame that Fort Erie, a town that is predicted to grow 30% in the next 20 years will not have someone with as much experience as Mr. Mostacci leading the way. Are the 4 imbeciles on council happy now!!

    Thanks Mike ……

Everytime I utter the word “Bowers”, I feel an influx of vomit travelling up my throat.

With Rino’s reputation in the industry as an exceptional professional, it is not surprising that other municipalities were actively trying to recruit him. Best of luck Rino, I’ll look for you at the conferences. As you mentioned, we still have a well-qualified staff that will help to fill the void that you will be leaving.

Hopefully he is getting paid more then the previous planning director – a $10k raise to move to Markham from Fort Erie doesn’t even touch the cost of living increase he will have in the GTA…hopefully we can find a decent planner to replace him instead of being the minor leagues for the bigger urban areas of Ontario.

I’m eagerly anticipating the Sharon Bowers case…

You won’t find any better…it’s a loss for Fort Erie.

Fort Erie is in good hands. The councillors know all about good planning, don’t they? And the law, too. And public sector finances. Throw in the wealth of knowledge Richard Berry has, they’ve also got ditches, roads, water, sewers and grader repairs taken care of.
