Speedway construction starts summer 2014

Construction of the Canadian Motor Speedway will begin in earnest in mid summer 2014 with pre-grading and site alteration work.

Erik Tomas, spokesman for CMS, said the work will kick off with a formal groundbreaking with NASCAR superstar Jeff Gordon, designer of the complex.

A final site plan will be submitted to the Town of Fort Erie in late April, Tomas said.

Work to divert Miller’s Creek has been completed and the site is “locked down for the winter,” he said.

Architectural firms are being interviewed.

Construction of the $400 million complex is expected to take 18 months.

We are so excited that it is finally happening. We are convinced it will be a very positive thing for the whole community. Now, if we could keep our horsetrack, we’d have a good one/two punch.
