Police shoot man at DMH

A Niagara Regional Police officer shot a man at Douglas Memorial Hospital Friday while investigating reports of a stabbing.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit  reports that officers from the Fort Erie district arrived at DMH at 8 p.m. and found a 61-year-old with knife wounds.

A 29-year-old man “approached” them and “there was an interaction” and one of the officers shot him, the SIU reports.

Both men were taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. Their conditions are not known.

Eight SIU personnel have been assigned to this investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

DMH Urgent Care is closed but operations continue in other parts of the hospital.
