NRP cop convicted for steroid smuggling

A Niagara Regional Police officer pleaded guilty in federal court in Buffalo Wednesday to exporting steroids to Canada.

Geoff Purdie, formerly of Fort Erie, will be sentenced on Feb. 28 and could face up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Court heard that the 41-year-old constable — who patrolled Fort Erie as part of Platoon ‘C’ — used his police credentials to identify himself to Canadian customs agents when smuggling the contraband.
