Still recovering from a devastating earthquake in 2010 and an outbreak of cholera, the people of Haiti were struck by another disaster, prompting a local woman to help.
Hurricane Matthew killed many hundreds and left thousands injured and homeless, and Doris Emerson of Black Creek is organizing relief efforts for the beleaguered nation, the poorest in the western hemisphere.
Doris Emerson of Black Creek has travelled to Haiti four times in the past years with Mission of Hope International and most recently helped build homes and infrastructure and distribute 500 tonnes of food following the earthquake.
Haiti has called again and Mrs. Emerson is soliciting donations for relief efforts through Meridian Credit Union.
Donations can be made to Doris Emerson-in-trust for Mission of Hope Haiti. Cheques can be mailed to the credit union, 2783 Stevensville Road, Stevensville ON L0S 1S0 or to Mrs. Emerson at 35-3033 Townline Road, Stevensville ON L0S 1S1.
Receipts will be issued for all contributions.
