Local high schools under review

Petition circulating

The futures of the public high schools in Ridgeway, Fort Erie and Port Colborne will be discussed tonight [Dec. 6] at a school board meeting to be held at Ridgeway Crystal Beach High School at 6 p.m.

The District School Board has undertaken an accommodation review to grapple with declining enrollment and an over supply of student space at its schools.

The process has already resulted in decisions to close a number of schools, including two in Fort Erie — Fort Erie Public School and Rose Seaton Public School — leaving only Garrison Road Public School and General Vanier Public School.

This meeting follows up a public consultation event and tour of RCBHS on Nov. 22. Tours of Fort Erie High School and Port Colborne High School will be held on Dec. 13.

A petition sponsored by the Ridgeway Business Improvement Area is being circulated. They will be available at most stores in Ridgeway. You can download it here Petition RCBHS.pdf.
