Liberal candidate trounced in Niagara

New Democratic Party candidate Wayne Gates squeaked past Progressive Conservative candidate Bart Maves who both thoroughly trounced Liberal Joyce Morocco to win the Niagara Falls byelection for Member of Provincial Parliament.

With only one poll out of 263 remaining to be counted, Gates has taken 39.5 per cent of the popular vote with 14,493. Maves counted 13,504 for 36.8 per cent while Morocco pulled a distant third with 6,969 or only 19 per cent of the vote in the riding vacated by Liberal MPP Kim Craitor in the fall.
