Future of high schools examined

While the possibility of another school closing looms, tours of high schools will be conducted tonight as part of a public information session on the future of the high schools in Fort Erie, Ridgeway and Port Colborne.

The session begins at Fort Erie Secondary School 6 p.m. and the show will be moved to Port Colborne High School at 7:30 p.m. where reports and staff will be available to answer questions.

A tour of RCBHS was conducted last month.

The District School Board of Niagara established an “accommodation review committee” for the three high schools to recommend changes necessary to address declining enrollment.

A review of the entire school board district is underway and has already resulted in the decision to close two elementary schools in Fort Erie.

While RCBHS is at near capacity for students, FESS and PCHS are less than half and enrollment projections show declines will continue.
