Firefighter Rob Puttick received high praise from Mayor Doug Martin for his exemplary actions in saving a car crash victim’s life.
The mayor lauded Puttick during Monday’s meeting of Fort Erie town council Monday night.
An unidentified woman had crashed her SUV into the ditch on Sunset Road Saturday night.
Puttick, who was nearby at a golf course, went directly to the scene.
There was a fire under the hood and a live hydro wire was draped across the vehicle.
Ensuring there would be no contact with any metal, Puttick pulled the woman out. Less than a minute later the vehicle was engulfed.
When firefighters did arrive, they could not start putting out the fire until the power was cut.
