The prospect of heavy rain and high winds has ended the 115-year history of horse racing in Fort Erie a day ahead of schedule.
Fort Erie Race Track officials have cancelled the last day of racing on Tuesday and may shorten Monday’s schedule if the weather makes the racing surface unsafe.
“This is especially disappointing to our staff, horse people and fans,” said track manager Rick Cowan. “It is the last day of operation and the timing could not have been worse.”
The track had already cancelled Saturday’s racing because there were not enough horses to fill cards for the last weekend of racing.
