CAO search begins again, again, again

The Town of Fort Erie will start advertising to fill the position of chief administrative officer.

The decision was made Monday night after the second closed session meeting to discuss the vacancy.

Harry Schlange, who left the Town in August 2011 to work for the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratories in the Ottawa area and returned to Niagara in October 2013 to take the reins as CAO of the Region, has been a difficult person to replace.

Infrastructure services director Tom Kuchyt has been interim-CAO since January last year. Before that, another IS director, Ron Tripp was acting-CAO for over a year and has since gone on to public works commissioner for the Region.

The last council surrendered last year, appointing Kuchyt for a year’s term which expires March 31, and leaving this primary task to the new council.

The whole situation has been sad, punctuated with controversial 4-3 votes. Read all about it in the related stories. [I just can’t write about it again, again, again.]
