Ambulance station won’t close

12/11/30 — A persistent rumour that the Regional ambulance station in Ridgeway will close or be torn down is false.

The rumour has been circulating in Ridgeway for about a year and there is no truth to it, says the Region’s director of emergency medical services.

John Cunnane is mystified how it has come up and how it continues to circulate.

“It’s not been proposed. Nothing has changed,” he said. “There is no intent to move out of Ridgeway or reduce staff.”

One ambulance is on duty 24 hours a day and a second is available 12 hours a day for peak periods, Cunnane said.

The station was built a few years ago at a cost of $738,000.

Cunnane said he is aware that a developer wants to build nearby and perhaps people are thinking the station must be demolished to accommodate it.

“We’re not even considering taking a vehicle away,” he said. “Ridgeway is in our short-term plan and our long-term plan.”
