Acting CAO rumoured to have quit

A press release will be issued Thursday to address a rumour that acting-chief administrative officer and director of public works Ron Tripp has quit the employment of the Town of Fort Erie.

“No comment,”wrote Mayor Doug Martin in an email Wednesday night. “Press release tomorrow.”

If true, he would be the fourth senior executive who has left in two years, starting with the planning director Rino Mostacci, then CAO Harry Schlange, then director of legal and legislative services Heather Salter, and now Tripp who has acted in Schlange’s stead since he departed nearly 20 months ago.

The relationship between some councillors and senior staff has been turbulent since this council took office in December 2010.

Mr. Tripp was not available for comment Wednesday night.

Thanks to the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Let’s wish him well. He is not the first to leave our troubled town. Also, I just learned from reading your previous articles that he tried to negotiate a $30,000 salary increase for the CAO position. I do not approve of that. Onwards and upwards for Fort Erie!

He didn’t try to negotiate a $30,000 increase. Another candidate for the position wanted $30,000 more than what Schlange made. Councillor Collard said in open session that he thought Fort Erie was undervaluing the job.
